Follow one instruction
Programming means describing operations a computer can carry out. A programming language has a defined syntax and rules. In PHP, an echo statement sends text to the program's output. This complete script prints a message:
<?php
echo "Hello, Kodivo!";
Output
Hello, Kodivo!
The <?php tag starts PHP code. Quotes surround the text, and the semicolon ends the statement. The output is Hello, Kodivo!. The computer does not infer the message's purpose. It performs the operation described by the code.
As a program grows, instructions use data, make decisions and call functions. You can still investigate its behavior with a specific question: what data does it receive, and what result should it return?
Where a web application runs
In a web application, the browser sends a request to a server. The server may run PHP code, read the required data and send a response. The browser might receive HTML describing a page. It normally does not receive the PHP source code.
HTML describes document structure, CSS controls presentation, and JavaScript can handle interactions in the browser. A database stores information that needs to survive later requests. A simple script can run without a database or a browser. You can display the message from the first example in a terminal.
In Kodivo, saving progress involves both the interface and the server. Clicking a button in the browser does not fully describe the saving rules. The server checks whose progress it is and which lesson it belongs to.
What an AI agent contributes
An AI agent can read project files, propose changes and use tools made available to it. Its scope depends on the client and the access you grant. It needs a task description to choose behavior that matches your goal.
MCP lets an AI client use another application's tools. In Kodivo, it supports fetching material and working through lessons. It is not an editor that executes uploaded PHP. Running a file on your computer remains a separate action you can ask your agent to perform.
Describe a tiny program
Describe a program that prints your name and a count of completed lessons. Decide whether the count is written into the code or read from stored data. Begin with a manually supplied value. Ask the agent for one file and an explanation of every statement.
Useful references include the first PHP tutorial and MDN's explanation of how the web works. In Kodivo, you can start with a short lesson and see an explanation, code and output together.
